1994 (Khemota X Ara Silken Sword)
Khemos Centurion was purchased as a sickly weanling from a local breeder who had recently brought her horses to Florida from California. With love, devotion, and nuturing care over the years Centurion slowly matured into a large, powerful, and beautiful stallion. Centurion was home raised and home trained for the first five years of his life. He was very sensible and easy to handle.
Though he showed in grooming and halter classes during those formative years, it wasn’t until he went away for training that his serious show career began. Centurion competed in halter classes with his owner, and was shown in Western Pleasure by his trainer. That first year of competition Khemos Centurion took home a Top 10 title for Region 12 in Arabian Western Pleasure Open division for the year 2000.
After that Khemos Centurion took a year off from serious competition and was shown locally. He still managed to take home Championships and High Point titles in Halter, Western Pleasure, and Hunter Pleasure in several local Arabian and All Breed shows. In the year 2002 Khemos Centurion and his owner returned to the A circuit along with his half Arabian son, Khemos Firey Comet, his most notable offspring. Together Centurion and Comet took Top 10 titles and Championships for Region 12. Centurion’s many achievements were: Top 5 in Arabian Halter, Top 12 in Arabian Hunter Pleasure Open, Top 5 in Arabian Hunter Pleasure Amateur, as well as top scores in Arabian Sport Horse In Hand, and Under Saddle.
Khemos Centurion was not only a multiple champion show horse, but a treasured equine companion. Together he and his owner spent many hours on the trail, tried out team penning, and went swimming in the nearby lakes. They even tried Limited Distance Endurance competition and finished top ten in every ride completed. Centurion had a lot of "down time" and opporitunities to just be a horse, however he was happiest on the trail. He was steadfast and dependable and gave everything he had.
Khemos Centurion was also a successful sire, with over 40 foals to his credit. Each and every one of them inherited his even temperament and easy trainability along with balanced conformation and athleticism. Though most of his foals were valued as family trail horses, some of them went on to follow their sire’s footsteps in the show ring, and like him, they came out champions.
Unfortunately Khemos Centurion succumbed to an untimely death without his full potential being achieved. He leaves behind many fine memories for his owner and many fans. Centurion also left behind a daughter that still resides at Sapphire Arabians. Sapphire Suraffa is just beginning her saddle training and will most assuredly be a show champion and competitive Endurance horse, just like her sire. Through her, Centurion’s legacy will carry on.
Written by a friend and admirer who was there to witness Centurion's greatness.
